Graduate Student Grants for Participation at Scholarly Meetings

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese sets aside money each year to support graduate students delivering papers at scholarly conferences or meetings during the academic year. Only travel, accommodations, and conference registration are covered. No more than two conferences per year (maximum of $300 per conference) will be funded. The Graduate School accepts applications for support of conference travel three times a year. Deadlines are: July 1, November 1 and March 1.

Graduate Study Abroad Grants

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese and the Latin American Studies Program, in an effort to provide research and study opportunities abroad for graduate students, offers summer grants. These competitive grants are available for projects carried out in Spanish-speaking regions outside the United States in the areas of language, literary, and cultural studies. Applicants are responsible for making all travel plans to and affiliation arrangements within the host country. Upon their return from the abroad experience, students are expected to present a written report of their project to the Graduate Director. Applicants must have completed two years of graduate work by the start of the Summer project.

Grants to Support Teaching and Enhance Classroom Materials

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese sets aside money to support moderate requests to bring speakers to classes, buy films for classroom use, and sponsor other enhancements of classroom teaching during the fall and spring semesters.

Note:
These are all competitive grants. Applications are submitted by a specified deadline for evaluation. See the Graduate Director or main office for eligibility, guidelines, requirements, and deadlines. Since the grants may not cover all expenses incurred for these purposes, applicants are encouraged to request additional funding from other sources.
