Class of 2016
Favorite Subject in High School: Spanish
Advice: Don’t be afraid to stray from the path you initially saw for yourself—I ended up with majors and minors far from what I had expected because I happened to take certain classes for Core requirements and fell in love with the subjects.
I had enjoyed Spanish in high school and initially thought I’d minor in the subject to keep up my proficiency. After two great Spanish courses my freshman year (Advanced Grammar and Composition and Introduction to Hispanic Literature), I realized that I wanted to take at least one Spanish course each semester to keep up with the language. Switching to a major allowed me to take advantage of more of the courses the department offered.
