Translation & Interpreting Program
The Translation and Interpreting program at Rutgers was one of the first programs in this discipline in the United States. During the last 20 years, graduates from the Spanish Translation and Interpretation program have achieved wide recognition within the field, with graduates holding leading positions in the field, such as federal and state court interpreting, in-house translation in Fortune 500 companies, translation management within the largest US Translation agencies, and medical interpreting. The program offers BA, MA and certificates in Spanish-English Translation and Interpreting.
The program has grown due to the dedication of Dr. Zatlin, a world renown scholar on Spanish Theatre and Translation, and it is currently directed by Dr. Miguel A. Jiménez-Crespo, PhD in Translation and Interpreting Studies by the University of Granada, Spain.

The Value of a Rutgers Certificate in Translation and Interpreting
Our certificate establishes that the student has taken a sequence of required courses in the field and maintained an excellent average. Our standards in courses are consistently high and the certificate is well respected within our region. A number of top professionals in the New Jersey and NYC metropolitan area collaborate in this program in areas such as Court Interpreting, Medical Interpreting and Literary Translation.
The certificate does not guarantee employement in the field, however many alumni of the certificate and masters programs work as translators/interpreters or in closely-related fields.
The program offers courses both online and in-person for the convenience of its students with an emphasis on translation and interpretation for Spanish-English and English-Spanish.
