Master of Arts for Teachers of Spanish (M.A.T.)

Application Deadlines

Fall Semester  August 15th
Spring Semester December 1st
Summer Semester April 15th

 

These are strict deadlines. If your application is not complete by the deadline, you will be considered for the following semester.  It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure their application is complete.

 

M.A.T. Admission Requirements:

  • Official transcripts from all universities applicant has attended- both undergradaute and graduate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish OR
    at least 12 upper division (300 or 400 level) OR
    graduate credits in Spanish language, linguistics, literature, translation, culture, or civilizations

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 total, or equivalent

  • A valid license to teach Spanish OR
    a valid provisional/temporary license for an applicant pursuing licensure/certification OR
    relevant work experience of at least three years

  • 3 Letters of Recommendation, 2 of which should be written by former professors that can assess the applicant’s academic performance

  • A personal statement, written in Spanish, which expresses the applicant’s purpose and goals in pursuing the M.A.T.

  • The TOEFL or IELTS if the applicant’s undergraduate degree is from a non-English speaking university

  • No GRE required

Upon submission of all materials, the Spanish Graduate Admissions Committee will review each packet and make the decision regarding the student’s acceptance or rejection following the deadlines posted.

M.A.OTI Admission Requirements:

  • Application 

  • 2 Personal Statements (1 in English & 1 in Spanish)

  • *2 sets of official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended

  • 3 Letters of Recommendation

  • GRE scores

  • TOEFL is required for non-native speakers of English

Ph.D. in Spanish Literature

Application Deadline:  January  7th

 

Ph.D. SL Admission Requirements:

  • Personal Statement

  • *2 sets of official transcripts from each postsecondary institution attended

  • 3 Letters of Recommendation

  • Writing sample (no more than 20 pages)

  • GRE scores

  • TOEFL is required for non-native speakers of English

Ph.D. in Bilingualism and Second Language Acquisition

 

Application Deadline:  January 7th

 

Ph.D. BSLA Admission Requirements:

  • 2 Personal Statements (one in English and one in Spanish)
  • *2 sets of official transcripts from each postsecondary institution attended

  • 3 Letters of Recommendation

  • GRE scores

  • TOEFL is required for non-native speakers of English
