Incarcerated in the Dominican Republic, an inmate uses sign language to communicate with his imprisoned girlfriend at an adjacent institution. Carpinteros/Woodpeckers won Best Director, Best Actor and Special Jury Prize at the Guadalajara Film Festival and Toulouse Latin American Film Festival.
