  • Professor Joseph Casillas has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure, and was awarded the Presidential fellowship for teaching excellence.
  • Professor Jorge Marcone has been appointed Associate Dean in the Humanities in the School of Arts and Sciences.
  • Professor Kendra Dickinson, Spanish Sociolinguist, will join our faculty in the fall – welcome!
  • Três Marias Chair in Portuguese Studies was established this year with generous funding from the Camões Institute and the Foundation for Lusoamerican Development, thanks to the efforts and vision of Professor Daniel Da Silva – parabèns!
  • Professor Karen Bishop is directing Translation at Rutgers, a new initiative in the Humanities through the School of Arts and Sciences.
  • After a two-year hiatus in summer study abroad due to the pandemic, this summer we return to Cusco, Peru with an eager group of students, led by Professor Stephen Bishop.
  • We enjoyed many special events this year, includingthe Lusophone Quiosque series, the Translation and Interpreting Talk Series, the annual Translate-a-thon, and the Transatlantic Archives workshop.
  • Eight doctoral students defended their dissertations this year and have started or will soon begin new academic positions.
  • Fifteen Masters in Teaching students and one Translation/Interpreting student earned their degrees this year.
