It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the sad news of the passing of our beloved Karen Sánchez, a Teaching Professor who left us on September 7th, 2024. Karen passed away after a prolonged and arduous battle against pancreatic cancer. We will all miss her more than words can express.

Karen joined Rutgers in the late 90’s. She taught hundreds of RU undergraduate and graduate students in her years in the department and was a key person in re-creating our current MAT program. Karen was a dedicated teacher who chose to teach until she couldn’t teach anymore. She taught for the department in Spring 2024 and planned to continue teaching this academic year. She said that teaching made her happy, and we feel truly honored to have had such a passionate educator in our SpanPort family.

Karen's life will be celebrated on Saturday, September 28, 2024, beginning at 2:30pm, in Room 2125 at Rutgers Academic Building - West Wing, 15 Seminary Place, New Brunswick, NJ.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial donations can made in her name to either:
