The Department of Spanish and Portuguese prepares students for success in the interconnected, global world of the 21st century. Spanish and Portuguese are spoken in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, and in vibrant heritage communities right here in our home state of New Jersey. Our programs are designed to inspire and guide every student in the study of language and culture, from the masterworks of literature to advanced linguistics to translation and interpreting. Our faculty bring teaching and research excellence from across the humanities and social sciences, with expertise in areas such as cognitive psychology, bilingualism, literary environmentalism, and contemporary cinema.
