The Spanish & Portuguese Graduate Organization is hosting a virtual stats workshop on 'random forests.' This is a statistical technique used to model variation and predict linguistic choices. It is widely used in fields such as corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, and computational linguistics, among others.
The guest speaker of the workshop will be Dr. Stephan Th. Gries, Distinguished Professor of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is the author of several articles and books on statistics for linguistics, such as Statistics for Linguistics with R: A Practical Introduction.
