Mia is a Teaching Professor of Spanish at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in the Department of World Languages and Literatures. She teaches mostly 100-level Spanish and is the Course Manager of Spanish 123/150, and won teaching awards from the department in 2021 and the College of Arts & Sciences in 2022. She is also the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies for the department and supports all eleven languages through promotion and recruitment. She is also the President of United Campus Workers - Tennessee.
