Daiane Tamanaha is a native of Brazil, where she majored in Social Communication & Journalism at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul. Daiane has conducted research in Linguistics and earned a master’s degree in Multidisciplinary Portuguese Studies from Universidade Aberta (UaB) in Lisbon, Portugal.

As a language instructor, she has taught Portuguese to native English and Spanish speakers at Princeton University, Rutgers University, and the University of Delaware. Daiane is one of the creators of Língua Viva, the online learning platform of the Portuguese Program at Princeton University. She also created her own online platform, TertuliaLingo (tertulialingo.com), which her students use exclusively at Rutgers. Daiane’s passion for the Portuguese language and culture extends beyond teaching.

Daiane has been a Portuguese editor of the Delaware Review of Latin American Studies (DeRLAS), a refereed, open-access, scholarly online journal covering all aspects of Latin American society, culture, and history.

She has also worked as a translator (English <> Portuguese) for the Innovations for Successful Societies (ISS), a research program at the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

Daiane Tamanaha has extensive experience as a journalist. She was employed for over twenty years at some of the most prominent Brazilian television networks, including Rede Globo in Mato Grosso do Sul and SBT in São Paulo, reaching audiences in the millions. Her work took her to Tokyo, Japan, where she worked as a reporter and announcer for Globo International. Daiane still takes assignments as a freelance journalist and has published on Universo Online (UOL), a Latin American internet service provider with the largest homepage portal in the Portuguese-speaking world.
