The minor program in Spanish is primarily designed for students in other majors who need a background in Spanish to prepare for careers in business, law, government, medicine,or for personal enrichment.

  • A minor consists of a minimum of 18 credits of courses given in Spanish (940) completed with a grade of C or better in each course.
    • Of the 18 credits, 9 credits must be at the 300 level or above.
  • The first course to count towards the minor is SPA 132 (SPA 139 for heritage speakers) not including 205, 206, 207, or 225.
  • Please refer to the description of our courses for a list of pre-requisites.
  • No more than 3 credits may be taken in courses not taught in the Spanish language.

Note: You will not receive credit towards the minor for any course taken below your placement.

SAS students can declare a Spanish minor online. For more information on declaring a minor or to download the declaration form, please click HERE.  Students from other units (SEBS, SOE, RBS-NB, etc.) should meet with their academic advisors regarding declaration of a Spanish minor.
